Before vs After

What is Conservation?

Conservation denotes scientific ways to preserve coins and similar archaeological objects of heritage from further deteriorating.

Conservation involves an initial analysis of the extent of damage done to the objects because of natural factors or a result of mishandling by individuals.

Having studied the need and extent of conservation required, the Trained Staff of the NGS Lab, then selects several techniques to clean, conserve and preserve the Item for a longer period of time. These conservation methods involve many of the internationally recognised techniques as well as some of our Proprietary Conservation Techniques. This amalgamation of conservation techniques results in a conserved property which is safe from further corrosions and atmospheric damages.

A scientifically conserved coin will not be labelled as “Cleaned” on the NGS Slabs. This is because such a conserved coin will not have any brush marks or acid marks. Conservation of coins also results in a pleasing eye-appeal which ultimately translates in the increase of its rarity and value. However, conservation of a coin not necessarily guarantees a higher grade like MS.
